Waterproofing test
Footwear waterproofing test: tested in laboratory and actual usage conditions, the shoes are equipped with waterproof and breathable coating to provide optimal protection from rain. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water: so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing
In the waterproofing tests, we test 3 levels of waterproofing, with 2,000 flexes (approx. 2h walking), 4,000 flexes (approx. 4h walking) and 8,000 flexes (approx. 8h walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once dry.
Field tests
All our shoes undergo use and comfort tests carried out by users who represent the target market in conditions identical to those found in typical use. Our Field Test Missions team up the product manager with people who aren't affiliated with QUECHUA, to test, improve, and validate our products.
Lab tests
Other laboratory tests are also conducted to approve the quality of the following components: eyelet and strap attachment, sticking, toxicology, UV resistance, wearing of sole and upper components, early wear and tear.
What size should I choose?
For hiking, you may need a size larger than your usual size to guarantee optimal comfort while going downhill, and avoid your toes bumping the end of the shoes. Tip: keep your toenails short, and before going downhill at any time, check that your laces are tight enough to stop your feet slipping down towards the front of the shoes.
Buying tips
Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Gradually start using you boots during your first few hiking trips to break them in.
